About the Project
The O2 design system consists of: our design principles, foundational design language, brand guidelines, human interface guidelines, and working code. It is maintained by our core design systems team and continually improved by our amazing community of contributors.
I have been able to take complete ownership of the design system and work it into a much more robust ecosystem. The main task was to conduct a holistic review of the taxonomy and descriptions of the foundations, components, and templates. This all started with auditing the site, conducting workshops, and creating templates for the documentation aspect of the showcase website (InVision DSM)
System audit and documentation
Legacy designs for most of the o2 work had been designed using Sketch. This meant consolidating a lot of design files and finding patterns across them that would feed into a new file structure. We have recently started to shift the system over to Figma using the updated file structure.
I started by breaking down each component to see where we were able to combine and streamline. I mainly utilised Miro to conduct reviews and work on the documentation before releasing new versions. This worked to be much more efficient when sharing work across the team.
Sketch vs Figma

Specifications
The specification element of the project was crucial as it become the source of truth for all designers to refer back to. Utilising Sketch libraries, I was able to create a harmonious connection throughout each file - allowing updates to become exponential from the foundations through to the documentation. This process Made sure that every element was the latest across the entire ecosystem.
